The NCA scheme for AVRO members continues to provide a specialist service to its customer base, primarily MAN and Hoyer/Scania. The successful scheme has now been operating for a number of years and provides up to thirty jobs a month to AVRO members in England, Scotland and Wales.
Representation has been made to the Highways Agency (HA) on a number of occasions, urging them to recognise the need for ‘owners request’ at most times, but especially where hazardous goods transporters are involved.
Certainly Hoyer Group representatives have expressed their concerns in the past and remain keen to ensure their expertise and contracted agents experience is gainfully employed in any incident involving one of their vehicles in an effort to reduce the likelihood of a more serious incident occurring.
In an effort to create a better understanding of the situation involving tankers, both fully laden or empty, practical displays have been performed by Hoyer’s personnel for a number of HA Traffic Officers in recent times, with a very positive outcome.
There is a strong hope that the future use of the HATO’s new powers on the Strategic Road Network will result in a more consistent use of owners request, more particularly in such a specialist field as hazardous goods vehicle recovery, where there is no replacement for competent levels of expertise.
If further information is required regarding possible practical displays in your area or if you are interested in joining the scheme, you should contact the NCA Scheme on 01788 572850.
