Professional vehicle recovery operators in the Republic of Ireland should be congratulated on their dedication to achieving higher standards within their industry, adopting the PAS 43 Specification out of choice and not as a result of external pressure from customers.
The initiative came from a small group of operators who were also members of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), a strong voice within government circles. The lead given by the group quickly gathered pace until nearly half of all operators in the country had converted to PAS 43, regarded as the standard for the vehicle recovery industry.
This sort of action is not unusual in this part of the world where there appears to be a greater tolerance to the introduction of new ideas and new legislation, seizing on opportunities to improve efficiency and create diversity within their business activities.
Being part of Europe and the European monetary system, the RoI have been subject to a number of changes in recent years and long before similar changes arrived in the UK. New legislation has included subjects such as tachographs, driver’s hours, environmental issues and end-of life-vehicles etc.
Circumstances do vary from the business in the UK but some of the successes achieved in Ireland are directly related to their collective solidarity. This selfless support can also be identified on a day-to-day trading basis with a strong co-operation and a will to share information, helping achieve faster results for everyone.
Give yourselves a slap on the back guys and gals!
