£2 MILLION INVESTMENT
AT ROGER DYSON GROUP
With around 27 million cars and 430,000 commercial vehicles on the UK’s roads and an estimated 500,000 breakdowns a year, just on our motorways, it’s no wonder Roger Dyson Group, the leading British manufacturer of roadside recovery and transport vehicles, has recently completed the final phase of a £2 million investment at its Droitwich factory.
As managing director Roger Dyson explains, today’s cars, vans and trucks are so technologically sophisticated it is becoming increasingly difficult to repair them at the roadside, so demand for recovery vehicles of all capacities is growing.
The investment has provided Dyson with an additional 25,000 sq ft of space, bringing the total area dedicated to the manufacturing, assembly, painting and finishing of vehicles to 75,000 sq ft. It has also enabled the company to expand and restructure its manufacturing and assembly areas, which will allow output to be increased from six to ten vehicles per week. In addition, the paint finishing shop now boasts its own shot blasting facility and a third paint oven; and the stores and spares areas have been expanded to accommodate the increase in raw materials and parts.
Commenting on the investment, Roger Dyson says it reinforces the company’s commitment to providing customers with a complete service from the Droitwich factory.
Vehicles are custom-built on chassis from most of the leading manufacturers. Dyson also holds chassis in stock so customers have the option to order a vehicle on a stock chassis, or supply their own. Either way, it is manufactured and assembled – and can be fully painted and liveried to their specification – all without leaving the site.
And because most customers collect their vehicles, the company is already building what it believes will be the UK’s first showroom and collection centre for recovery vehicles. Due to open in September, the 20,000 sq ft Centre will include a display area for new vehicles, storage for vehicles awaiting customer collection and an accessory shop offering essential items of equipment such as safety clothing, chains, straps and tools that are often overlooked when customers take delivery of new recovery vehicles.
Roger Dyson promises that the new Centre, which represents a further
£1 million investment, will have the look and feel of a leading commercial vehicle dealership.
Roger Dyson Group manufactures the widest range of British-made recovery and transport vehicles including Hydralift spectacle lifts, Hydraloader slidebacks; Brimec plant loaders and Transloader transporters; the Hydraclamp truck for removing illegally parked vehicles from city centres; and Commander heavy-duty recovery vehicles capable of lifting a truck and trailer from a ditch. The company also assembles and distributes a range of vehicles equipped with the unique Canadian-manufactured NRC slider and rotating slider systems, that enable recovery equipment to slide and rotate a load at full capacity.
